The city of Hong Kong has always been known for being a cosmopolitan city with its own rich culture and personality. But do you know that aside from the usual tourist attractions, Hong Kong has plenty of hidden spots that is absolutely worth exploring?

MAYCHAM is thrilled to be introducing a series of tours from our Hidden Gems Tours of Hong Kong Series to our members and friends.

Kicking off this series, we will be organising a tour to the infamous Kowloon Walled City Park. The Kowloon Walled City Park is a historical park located in Kowloon City, Hong Kong. It had been a military stronghold since the 15th century due to its coastal location and was a centre of vice and crime until 1987. The Kowloon Walled City was demolished in the 1990s while the indigenous buildings and features were preserved for incorporation in the new park.

Here are some of the highlights of the tour :

• A glimpse of the historical exhibits of Song Dynasty discovered during the construction
• Pass by two new cafes converted from old Chinese shophouses and learn their stories
• Visit Chiu Fat, a long-standing Chiu Chow grocery store and Kwai Yue Zai (another famous Chiu Chow bakery in the region
• Venture into Little Thailand, try some Thai snacks and understand how the Thailand community set foot in Kowloon City
• Explore Kowloon Walled City Park, and hear the crazy stories of the once City of Darkness
• Visit the rooftop of a walk-up building in Kowloon City and take a view of the area from the top.

A sumptuous lunch will be provided at the iconic Chiu Chow restaurant, Lok Hau Fook in Kowloon City. The menu includes :

• ChaoShan Oyster Pancakes
• Fried Chinese kale with square fish
• PuNing Fried Tofu
• Chestnut and Chicken in casserole
• Dried shrimp, salted pork and Tianjin cabbage in casserole
• Threadfin fish with preserved vegetables
• Fried squid with salt and pepper
• Fried Rice with sautéed spring beans and Chinese kale

Meeting Point : Sung Wong Toi MTR station (meeting time at 0950)

Guided tour will start at 10AM and will be conducted in English.
