MAYCHAM's Women Internal Network (WiN) is proud to present a group of award-winning authors from Malaysia to the members of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce over a nasi lemak lunch at the Ballroom of the JW Marriott on the 10th March 2023.


Coinciding with International Women's Day on the 8th March this year, come meet these strong women voices who represent the ethnic fabric of Malay, Indian and Chinese from Malaysia. They will share their diverse backgrounds growing up in Malaysia, how they developed their own career as writers and especially how they broke the barriers and overcome challenges facing non-native English writers in the western world. We hope they will be an inspiration to writers in and outside Malaysia. Please refer to the Speakers' Details for more information.

    Karina Robles Bahrin

    Karina Robles Bahrin's short fiction has been published in venues such as Urban Odysseys: KL Stories, KL Noir: Blue, A Subtle Degree of Restraint & Other Stories and Malaysian Tales: Retold & Remixed. She is a former columnist with The Heat, a weekly by Focus Malaysia. She currently lives and works on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia. The Accidental Malay is her first novel.

    Zen Cho

    Zen Cho is the author of historical fantasies Sorcerer to the Crown, The True Queen and The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water, as well as a short story collection, Spirits Abroad. Her newest novel is Black Water Sister, a contemporary fantasy set in Malaysia. Zen is a winner of the Hugo, Crawford and British Fantasy Awards and the LA Times Book Prize/Ray Bradbury Prize, as well as a finalist for the World Fantasy, Ignyte, Lambda, Locus and Astounding Awards. She was born and raised in Malaysia, resides in the UK, and lives in a notional space between the two.

  • Daphne Lee

    Daphne Lee

    Daphne Lee is the consulting editor at Scholastic Asia, a division of Scholastic Press, where she champions the creation of Asian content by Asians. To this end, she helped develop and is an advisor to the ongoing Scholastic Asian Book Award and Scholastic Picture Book Award, which have their home at the annual Asian Festival of Children’s Content in Singapore.

    Daphne is also a writer with a particular interest in Asian folklore. She is the author of Bright Landscapes: A Short Story Collection (Laras 99); and the curator and editor of Malaysian Tales: Retold & Remixed (ZI Publications) and Remang: An Anthology of Ghostly Tales (Terrer Books).

    Because Daphne believes that folktales should be easily and freely accessible to everyone, she is working hard to set up an online archive of Malaysian myths, legends and fairytales as a resource for all Malaysians.

  • Preeta Samarasan

    Preeta Samarasan

    Preeta Samarasan is a writer of Malaysian Tamil origin. Her first novel, “Evening is the Whole Day” (2008), won awards in several countries and was longlisted for the Orange and Commonwealth Prizes. Her short fiction and essays have been widely published in literary journals. Her second novel, “Tale of the Dreamer's Son”, was published in 2022. Other than literature, her interests include global food history, Japanese art, and European classical music. She is an enthusiastic but not yet virtuosic harpsichordist. She currently lives in France.

  • Sue Lynn Tan

    Sue Lynn Tan

    Born in Malaysia, Sue Lynn Tan studied in London and France before moving to Hong Kong with her family. Her love for stories began with a gift from her father, her first compilation of fairytales from around the world. After devouring every fable she could find in the library, she discovered fantasy books, spending much of her childhood lost in magical worlds. Tan is the author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior, a romantic fantasy inspired by the legend of the Chinese moon goddess. Her books will be translated into seventeen languages, and are USA Today and Sunday Times bestsellers.
