Event Details
Sustainable development is a global imperative that Malaysia has embraced. As companies seek to align themselves with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong and Macau (MAYCHAM) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group and the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets, are pleased to convene an exclusive fireside conversation with Kim-See Lim, Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific at IFC, on how business and investors in the region can capitalize on the next wave of sustainable investments in Malaysia. Ms. Lim will share insights, experience, and knowledge on investment opportunities, ESG initiatives, strategies, action plans for the private sector that will effectively mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and support a just transition to net zero. The session will be moderated by Michael Yong-Haron, a Founding Sponsor of MAYCHAM.
Climate change is a huge business opportunity, and the market for climate-smart investments is growing. Businesses are increasingly finding innovative and ultimately profitable solutions to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions in sectors including renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, green buildings, and sustainable cities, which will ultimately generate jobs and foster greater prosperity and inclusion. As more Malaysian companies commit to align themselves with the Paris Agreement to meet net-zero targets, many still face significant challenges in the transition, particularly in identifying, assessing, and managing climate-related risks.
IFC is uniquely placed to partner with Malaysian companies and financial institutions to develop frameworks and leverage innovative climate solutions and financing products to decarbonise their portfolios and support them in the transition. In the last fiscal year alone, IFC provided more than $7.7 billion in climate-related financing, including more than $3.3 billion mobilized from other investors. IFC acts as an advisor, investor, and partner for private-sector clients and governments around the world, and it has a long-standing track record in growing new markets for climate business. This fireside chat aims to bring together industry leaders, investors, and corporates to discuss how we can work together to address climate-related challenges and achieve our net zero commitments.
